The electric power grid is evolving. For nearly 120 years, from the humble beginnings of Edison’s Pearl Street Station to the early 21st century, energy was produced by remotely located power stations and supplied to consumers via transmission and distribution lines. However, the nature of the power grid has changed significantly in the last couple of decades with distributed energy resources such as rooftop photovoltaic solar and battery energy storage locating close to consumers. It will not be very long before electric vehicles with their large batteries will be a source of energy on the power grid. The flow of energy will no longer be unidirectional as we know it. The power grid needs to be able to pivot for this future.
New Grid Consulting was founded to provide advisory services to electric utilities and other participants in the electricity business. The staff of New Grid Consulting have decades of experience in generation, transmission and distribution planning and an unwavering commitment to help build the power grid of the future.
